An adult sustained a minor wrist injury in a house fire on Aurora’s East Side last Thursday, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department.
At around 12:17 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, the Aurora Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on the 200 block of Ashland Court, the release said.
Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the back of a 1½-story single-family home, the news release said.
Firefighters found the source of the fire in a three-season room attached to the rear of the house and deployed hose lines to contain and extinguish it, officials said. The fire was confined to that room and did not extend into the main living space, according to the release.
An adult resident sustained a minor wrist injury and was assessed on scene by medics, but declined being taken to a hospital, the release said. A search confirmed that there were no other occupants inside the home at the time, the release added. No firefighters were injured during the response.
This is the fifth second-alarm fire the Aurora Fire Department has responded to since Sept. 11, a fire department spokesperson confirmed on Monday, two of which left a home and an apartment building uninhabitable. The number of alarms a fire is assigned refers to the level of units a fire department needs to respond, the spokesperson said.
A total of 24 personnel — four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and two chief officers — responded to the fire last Thursday, per the news release.
The home was ultimately deemed habitable, the release said, but its residents chose to stay with family members. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
