The Matteson Police Department took two people into custody after a manhunt Monday morning along Vollmer Road and Harlem Avenue in Matteson, according to a department statement.
Matteson Cmdr. Justin Ramel said police received a call reporting suspicious individuals, who police later said had firearms, at 5:39 a.m. in a residential neighborhofod along Central Avenue south of Vollmer Road.
The subjects fled in multiple vehicles, and officers located the abandoned vehicles a short time later, according to a department press release. Tinley Park police also assisted the search, according to a Tinley spokesperson.
The search for remaining individuals remained ongoing as of 1:30 p.m. Monday, and there was still a heavy police presence around Vollmer Road and Harlem Avenue, according to Ramel.
The Will County sheriff’s office announced a shelter in place for the immediate area of Harlem Avenue and Vollmer Road in Frankfort Square at around 6:30 a.m., which was later lifted just after 8:30 a.m.
Matteson officials urged residents to remain vigilant, call 911 if they see anything suspicious or call the non-emergency phone line if they have information regarding this investigation.
