Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the Wednesday shooting of three people as they sat inside a vehicle in Carpentersville.

Rafael Ruiz Jr., 21, of Aurora, and a 17-year-old juvenile from Carpentersville were taken into custody Friday after Carpenterville police executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of Pawnee Road.

Ruiz has been charged with one count each of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a street gang member and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, all felony charges, a Carpentersville police news release said. He was also found to be wanted on five outstanding warrants.

The juvenile faces the same charges as well as one count of felony obstructing justice.

The shooting took place about 11:25 p.m. when the two suspects approached a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 1200 block of Navajo Drive, a police report said. A confrontation ensued, and three of the four people inside the vehicle were shot.

Police found the victims’ vehicle at the intersection of Randall Road and Broadsmore Drive in Algonquin as the driver was attempting to get them to a hospital, the report said. A passenger inside the car had called 911 for help, and the officers who responded were able to administer life-saving measures before the the victims could be transported to an area hospital for treatment.
