Ribbon-cutting held for Wildwood Commons, Wildwood Trace

A ribbon-cutting event was held to celebrate the completion of Wildwood Commons and Wildwood Trace, two new affordable and permanent supportive housing communities in Elgin.

Wildwood Commons at 691 S. State St. has 24 one- and two-bedroom units, with rental priority given to disabled individuals or households, according to the Association for Individual Development (AID) website. The common areas of the development include a community room with full kitchen, event room, lounge areas and a fitness center.

Wildwood Trace, 695 S. State St., is a 74-unit housing complex for people with disabilities, low-income families, or people experiencing or at risk of becoming homeless. The development will include a community mental health center with an onsite pharmacy.

The event was attended by Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain and other local and state officials.

Pollyanna to host Blues and Brews on the Fox in St. Charles

Pollyanna Brewing & Distilling will host Blues & Brews on the Fox, a music and craft beverage festival to be held Saturday, Aug. 23, on Riverside Avenue in St. Charles.

The event runs from noon to 11 p.m., and will feature live music, food and locally crafted beverages, according to a news release.

Admission is $10 and includes a commemorative souvenir mug that can be used throughout the day, organizers said. Tickets can be purchased at www.pollyannabrewing.com.

Beer, wine and cocktails from Pollyanna Brewing and other local St. Charles breweries will be sold in addition to food being provided by a variety of vendors, including 4D’s BBQ food truck, Duke’s Northwoods and Kimmer’s Ice Cream, the release said.

A lineup of local, regional and national performers will present live music, organizers said. For a full list of artists performing, go to the Pollyanna website.

Local teens earn Kane County 4-H Foundation Scholarships

Four local teens are the recipients of college scholarships through the Kane County 4-H Foundation.

The 2025 honorees were selected based on 4-H involvement and achievements, community service, school involvement and future plans, according to a news release.

  • Jenna Hubbard, of St. Charles, received a $2,000 4-H Foundation Scholarship. A graduate of St. Charles East High School, she plans to attend Illinois State University to pursue a career in medicine. Hubbard is a four-year member of Primrose Clovers 4-H Club.
  • Samuel Haviland, of Elgin, received a combined $1,500 from the Mike Panek Memorial Scholarship and the Donna Meyer Memorial Scholarship. He is a 14-year member of A Bit More 4-H Club. Hubbard graduated from Central High School and plans to attend Illinois State University to study agribusiness.
  • Wyatt Yakle, of Maple Park, received a combined $1,500 from the Donna Meyer Memorial Scholarship and the 4-H Foundation Scholarship. He is a 10-year member of Y-Not 4-H Club. Yakle graduated from Kaneland High School and plans to attend Elgin Community College to become a certified welder.
  • Autumn Kriegel, of Elgin, received a combined $1,500 from the Bob & Alice Konen Memorial Scholarship and the Russell Memorial Scholarship. Kriegel is a nine-year member of Burlington Ag 4-H Club. She graduated from Hampshire High School and plans to study accounting at Iowa State University.
