Weather officials said the threat for flash flooding and severe weather had ended after heavy rains and thunderstorms rolled through the Chicago region.

Through the afternoon and into Tuesday night, the National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for portions of Cook, DuPage and Will counties.

Officials said atmospheric conditions were favorable for rainfall rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Several hundred 311 complaints of water in the street and in basements were opened Tuesday, city data showed.
Amid the storms, ground stops were issued at both Midway and O’Hare international airports Tuesday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. By 8 p.m., the ground stops at Midway and O’Hare had been lifted but departures to O’Hare were delayed an average of nearly three hours because of the storms, per the FAA.
The start of the Chicago White Sox game against the Detroit Tigers was delayed because of the rain.
Tuesday night, there was a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m. with temperatures in the low 70s.
Tuesday’s rain totals will add to the 1 to 1.5 inches of rain that fell in Chicago on Monday, weather officials said.
