National Weather Service officials warned conditions will be uncomfortable and humid Saturday with the heat index peaking to 100 degrees.

Current afternoon morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport is a few clouds at 89 degrees. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are a few clouds and breezy at 92 degrees.

A Hazardous Weather outlook issued for portions of north central and northeast Illinois as well as northwest Indiana said there is an elevated thunderstorm risk including damaging wind up to 60 mph, hail up to one inch in diameter, and a flood risk across northeast Illinois.

In the Chicago and surrounding areas there is an excessive heat risk, officials said.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening with the strongest of the storms creating torrential downpours. The greatest severe risk was expected near the I-39 corridor, officials said.

High temperatures in the lower 90s are expected in the afternoon Saturday with heat indexes hitting about 100 degrees, officials said.

Sunday, there is a flooding risk expected to continue into Monday. Heat and humidity was expected to stick around with periodic showers moving through the area. Some areas may remain dry with some areas missing the storms completely, officials said.
