A six-bedroom, 9,754-square-foot Winnetka mansion sold in early March for $4.35 million, and its sellers are the couple who paid $12.25 million in 2023 for a high-profile and vintage mansion on Lake Michigan in Winnetka.
GoHealth CEO Vijay Kotte and his wife, Shiraz, were the August 2023 buyers of the five-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot Spanish-style mansion on Lake Michigan that the late insurance mogul, philanthropist and author W. Clement Stone and his wife, Jessie, once had owned. The Stones had bought the mansion in 1966 and remained there until W. Clement Stone’s death at age 100 in 2002 and Jessie Stone’s passing at 100 in 2004. The Stone estate then sold the mansion in 2006 to business executive Randy Abrahams and his wife for $8.1 million.
Now, the Kottes have sold their existing, 9,754-square-foot stone and brick mansion in Winnetka, which was built in 2013. The mansion has seven bathrooms, four fireplaces, a kitchen with professional appliances, a breakfast nook with built-in bench seating for up to 10 people, a library/office, automated privacy black-out shades in the bedrooms, a third-floor guest retreat and a basement with a family area, an exercise room, a sport court, a movie theater and provisions for a wine cellar.
Vijay Kotte declined to comment, other than to confirm that he and his wife have “continued to go through our process to figure out best plans” for the former Stone mansion. He added that his sale of the newer mansion “is not correlated at all” with plans for the lakefront site, noting that it was a “good market opportunity to sell my house.”
The Kottes’ listing agent, Milena Birov, could not be reached for comment. However, her husband, homebuilder Leo Birov, confirmed that the Kottes have received a demolition permit for the vintage lakefront mansion once owned by Stone and still plan to tear it down and build anew on the site. He declined to comment on where the couple have moved.
The Winnetka house that the Kottes sold had a $60,648 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.
