Frigid wind chills are expected to continue in Chicago and surrounding areas Thursday as commuters continue the battle against subzero wind chills, weather officials said.

While temperatures are expected in the low 20s, wind chills are expected to hover as low as minus 9 degrees. The sun was expected to be out during a frigid Thursday when winds were expected to blow between 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, officials said.

Thursday night, a high of 10 degrees is expected with a wind chill as low as minus 1.

Anyone outside for periods of time should guard against frostbite with winter accessories including gloves or mittens, hats, earmuffs and scarves. Thermal underwear or layers of clothing should be considered for warmth.

Morning temperatures registered at O’Hare International Airport were mostly cloudy at 5 degrees with a wind chill of minus 15. At Midway Airport, conditions were the same.

Acts of kindness to the homeless for those without protective items should be considered during these brutally cold conditions.
