A suspect opened fire toward officers, striking one, overnight in west suburban Cicero, a spokesman said.
According to Cicero spokesman Ray Hanania, about 12:45 a.m. Saturday the gunman opened fire toward officers, hitting one in the back in the area of 35th Street and 61st Court. The second officer was not hurt, Hanania said.
The officers had approached the suspect’s vehicle after seeing it was illegally double-parked. They quickly called for assistance once shots were fired, Hanania said. The officers identified two people who were arrested shortly after attempting to flee the scene, according to Hanania.
The wounded officer was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where his condition was stabilized.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
