ATLANTA — The first general election debate of 2024 took place Thursday in Atlanta, with President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump rematching in the first ever debate between a sitting president and a former one.
A raspy Biden repeatedly sought to confront Donald Trump ahead of the November election, as his Republican rival countered the president’s criticism by leaning into falsehoods about the economy, illegal immigration and his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.
ABC will host the second debate on Sept. 10. The network has not offered details on where its event would be held, only that it would be moderated by anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.
