Skokie police responded to an alert of a person shot on the 9300 block of Lorel Avenue in the early morning hours Friday, according to a news release. Police said the victim, an adult female, had a non-life-threatening injury and received prompt medical care.

A 24-year-old man from the 9300 block of Lorel Avenue, Skokie, was identified by police as the shooter and arrested on Jan. 26, according to the Skokie Police Department. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved six felony charges against him on Jan. 27.

At a pretrial detention hearing on Sunday, Judge Susana Ortiz ruled that the man would remain in custody before his trial, according to a Cook County Circuit Court spokesperson. His next status hearing was scheduled for Tuesday at the Skokie Courthouse.

Police said the shooting was the result of a verbal altercation between the man and the victim and that the two know each other.

The State’s Attorney’s Office approved one felony count for attempted murder, one felony count for aggravated battery with a firearm, one felony count of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, two felony counts for aggravated battery to a peace officer, and one felony count for criminal damage to property over $500.

An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.
