The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education on Monday approved the appointment of Amanda Hughes as the next principal of Glenbrook North High School.

According to a news release, Hughes is the assistant principal for buildings and grounds and activity director at Fremd High School in Palatine. In that role, she is responsible for schoolwide professional development, facilities management, activities supervision and budget management. Experience managing some of the most important departments of a high school was key in preparing Hughes to become a principal, the release said.

During the meeting, Hughes expressed her appreciation to the interview teams and the Board of Education for the opportunity and said she looks forward to meeting students, staff and families, the release said.

“I can’t wait to start meeting our students, families and staff over these next few months and to learn about GBN’s traditions and hopes for our students,” Hughes said.

According to District 225 officials, the process of filling the principal role began in the fall with a comprehensive survey that gathered insights and opinions from students, staff, families, and community members, which informed the development of a candidate profile. The insights and perspectives from students, staff members and parents who participated in the interview process were invaluable to making the right decision, the release said.

“I am very excited to have Mrs. Hughes join us in the district,” Superintendent Charles Johns said in the release. “Throughout the interview process, she exhibited intelligence and thoughtfulness as she shared her breadth of experiences. These experiences nicely line up with the work we are doing at GBN. She is perfectly positioned to lead GBN for years to come.”

Hughes was chosen from a pool of eight candidates interviewed in four rounds beginning in December 2023 and concluding on Jan. 10, 2024. She will formally begin her tenure in the district on July 1, 2024, the release said.
