The Barrington Village Board approved plans related to a mixed-use development on North Hough Street ? often referred to as the “Golden Triangle” due to its triangular shape — that has been in the works for more than a year.
The project was approved on a 7-0 vote at the Dec. 11 Village Board meeting as part of the consent agenda. The Plan Commission voted in May 2023 that the Village Board approve development. ]
Barrington resident Joe Taylor, managing member of Compasspoint Development, will be the project’s developer.
According to village officials, the development at 200-300 N. Hough St. will include a building four-stories tall with 125 luxury rental apartments and 12,000-square-feet of commercial retail and restaurant space.
The project will also feature 37 “car condominiums,” which are secure, temperature-controlled spaces for luxury and collector cars, located in the rear of the building. New landscaping, lighting, parking, pedestrian walkways as well as bicycle parking will also be on the site, village officials said.
“The development of the ‘Golden Triangle’ has been a long-standing goal as part of our ongoing plan to enhance the vitality of the Village Center,” Village President Karen Darch said in a statement to Pioneer Press. “We are excited by the new retail, restaurant and enhanced public space opportunities that will result from this development.”
She said the development is important to the village as it is taking a piece of property that has been unused and turning it into an activity-generating one that will enhance the beauty and liveliness of downtown Barrington.
Also at the Dec. 11 board meeting, trustees approved the village’s $42 million fiscal year 2024 operating budget. Village Manager Scott Anderson said the spending plan reflects a decrease of 8% versus the current year’s budget yet maintains the same level of service in the village.
In addition, he said there is a $7 million allocation for capital improvements in the village for the next year. The village’s fiscal year runs Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024.
