Barnes and Noble is looking to open a bookstore in a commercial center along the Route 34 corridor in Oswego.

Village officials recently announced Barnes and Noble has submitted plans to occupy the storefront at 2590 Route 34 near Best Buy. The plans include renovating almost 16,000 square feet of retail space.

The location previously housed DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, village officials said.

The Oswego location will showcase the new design seen in the most recent Barnes and Noble store openings, village officials said. The store will sell books, toys, games and other items and will include a cafe.

“I couldn’t be happier to welcome Barnes and Noble to our community,” Oswego Village President Ryan Kauffman said in a press release. “Bookstores are one of my favorite spots. This new addition promises to be a haven for literature lovers and a vibrant hub for intellectual engagement. It’s not only a step forward in enhancing the cultural fabric of our town, but will also elevate and diversify our retail offerings.”

A summer opening is planned for Oswego Barnes and Noble, village officials said.
