A Gilberts man was critically hurt early Monday morning when his pickup truck collided with a tree on McCornack Road in Rutland Township, just west of Elgin, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash occurred about 1:15 a.m. when James Oury, 37, of the 39W800 block of Tower Hill Road, was driving southbound in the 15N500 block of McCornack Road and, for unknown reasons, left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled at least once, the sheriff’s office report said. Oury was ejected from the vehicle.

Oury’s cell phone contacted 911, and he was initially taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was later transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of critical injuries, including head and shoulder fractures, the report said.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Kane County Drone Team and Kane County Evidence Division are handling the investigation. It’s not known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash or if charges will be filed, the report said.
