Seniors and their families are invited to attend an open house on Nov. 3 to learn about the programs and activities offered by the Northbrook Park District’s Senior Center.

According to a news release, the Senior Showcase will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 at the Senior Center, which is located inside the Leisure Center at 3323 Walters Ave.

Seniors will be able to get to know staff members, interact with service providers, enjoy social time with community members, and meet rhe Center’s sponsor organizations, the news release said.

Attendees also will have a chance to meet Nancy Eschker, who was recently promoted to recreation manager for the Northbrook Park District and now oversees operations and activities at the Senior Center. Nancy has been a valuable member of the district’s team for over five years, according to the news release.

Erin Sweet, Northbrook Park District Superintendent of Arts and Recreation, said the Senior Center is a warm and receptive community that embraces all seniors.

“Building community is really important to what we do here, and we are happy that our facility offers a variety of opportunities to bring people together at the Senior Center,” Sweet said in the release.

The Senior Center offers memberships at $30 annually for Northbrook residents and $45 annually for nonresidents and those who live in unincorporated Northbrook, according to the release.

Memberships are not required for many activities. However, members receive discounts on events and programs, and can attend dozens of free drop-in programs offered each week, including pickleball, card games, crafting, knitting and social hour.

Drop-in canasta is a favorite for senior Kym Condon of Northbrook, according to the release.

“There is something for everyone at the Senior Center,” Condon said. “I have made several lifelong friends, and it’s a safe and comfortable environment.”

Senior John Kaminski, also of Northbrook, enjoys attending drop-in card games, as well as playing pickleball and taking part in humanities and current event discussions at the Senior Center, the release said.

“There is always something to do,” Kaminski said.
