With fall settling in, the Barrington Village Board did a look-ahead at its meeting last month with approving the village’s Fourth of July fireworks vendor.
At the Sept. 25 meeting, trustees approved and authorized the execution of an agreement with Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions of LaPorte, Indiana, for a village fireworks show to be held July 2, 2024.
In the meeting that included a light agenda, Village President Karen Darch recognized that a number of trustees attended the recent Illinois Municipal League conference to learn about trends and happenings. She also thanked the fire and police departments for the recent open house, as well as the public works and police department for their service during the Barrington High School homecoming parade which was a well-attended village event.
Also, one of the main things discussed at the meeting was the upcoming hunger walk.
Barrington area churches, schools and organizations will be conducting the annual Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk Oct. 15 to raise funds to help feed those in need locally and globally.
The board issued a proclamation at the Sept. 25 meeting for the event, which has a local goal of raising $40,000. Last year, the CROP Hunger Walk ranked No. 40 nationally in funds raised, officials explained.

“It’s always a wonderful community event,” Darch said.
Trustee Todd Sholeen read the proclamation asking local residents to “make a difference for hungry people locally and around the world.”
The event is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Community Church of Barrington, 407 S. Grove Ave., in the village. Participants will be able to follow a one-mile or five-mile route.
The proclamation stated that funds raised during the event will, in part, go to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Fish Food Pantry in Carpentersville, the Wauconda Island Lake Food Pantry, Project HOPE, Barrington Meals with Wheels and the Church World Service which supports refugee settlements, among other agencies.
Nationally, the event raises $6 million to support hungry people, officials said.
