Improvements, maintenance and repairs to the gazebo at Dwyer Park in Winnetka were made possible by a $100,000 donation by the Winnetka Woman’s Club.

A dedication event along with a ribbon cutting was held earlier this month on Sept. 8 to unveil a plaque highlighting the donation.

Donated funds were also used to add bench seating to the gazebo, according to a news release. Members of the Winnetka Woman’s Club looked on as Winnetka Park District Board President Christina Codo presented the plaque

“The remarkable donation from The Winnetka Woman’s Club provides lasting value to the community by supporting the beauty and functionality of the Dwyer Park gazebo,” Codo said. “We are honored to recognize all who served The Winnetka Woman’s Club and, in particular, the club’s generous support of the Park District.”

The club recently voted to dissolve after 114 years of service to the community. The remaining funds left to the club were then disseminated to local organizations that work to better the Winnetka community.

“The Winnetka Woman’s Club left a legacy for the generations that followed them,” longtime leader of The Winnetka Woman’s Club Nancy Nagel said. “We hope future generations will know and appreciate that a woman’s group came before them, who wanted the community to benefit from their service.”
