The same week the FBI announced a man had been arrested on he charges he robbed an Elgin bank another bank in Elgin was robbed, officials said.
Elgin police said there also was an attempted bank robbery Thursday, the same day a man a man went into the Chase Bank at 1600 Larkin Ave. about 4:30 p.m., implied he had a weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, the FBI said in a news release.
Described as being Black or Hispanic, the suspect in the Chase holdup was wearing blue jeans, a gray shirt and a tan or black hat. A photo taken from suveillance camera video was released by the FBI, which asked for help in identifying him.

A little more than two weeks earlier, a man went into the PNC Bank at 850 Summit St. about 1:45 p.m. Aug. 15, presented an employee with a note requesting money and made a verbal demand as well, the FBI account said. He was wearing a yellow construction vest, face mask and baseball cap with fake dreadlocks.
The suspect has been identified as Devonte M. Eaton, 30, of Elgin, who was arrested Tuesday on federal bank robbery charges, the FBI said. The Elgin police were credited with assisting in the investigation.

The attempted robbery occurred about 4:20 p.m. Thursday at the Elgin State Bank, 50 Tyler Creek Plaza. A preliminary investigation determined no money was taken and no weapon used, Elgin police said in a Facebook post.
Police asked that anyone with information on the attempted robbery call 847-289-2600 or text a tip to 847411, including “ELGINPD” at the beginning of the message.
Anyone with information on the Chase Bank robbery is asked to contact the FBI with tips, which can be submitted anonymously if preferred, by going to tips.fbi.gov or calling 312-421-6700.
