Pfeiffer Road in Frankfort will undergo major extension beginning later this month after village officials approved a contract for nearly $4 million to begin construction.

The Pfeiffer Road extension project will link U.S. Route 30 to Colorado Avenue and St. Francis Road with a two-lane road with sidewalk, lighting, landscaping and stormwater management, Trustee Daniel Rossi said during the Aug. 7 Village Board meeting.

“This road project plays a very integral part in the development of that Route 30 corridor that the village is actively marketing at this time,” Rossi said.

The project will enhance connections, ease traffic congestion and promote accessibility within the community, village officials said in a news release, noting it aligns with the village’s 2040 comprehensive plan.

The plan was approved in 2019, said Mayor Keith Ogle. When he was elected in 2021, Ogle said he met with trustees and everyone agreed Pfeiffer Road was a priority.

Ogle said the expansion will allow for commercial and residential expansion.

“Frankfort is a very attractive demographic and locale,” Ogle said. “We’ve had a lot of inquiries for businesses to open here.”

Four bids were filed for the extension project, Rossi said, and the lowest bid was from Austin Tyler Construction for $3.9 million.

“The village of Frankfort is taking a significant stride toward enhancing the quality of life for our residents,” Ogle said. “This expansion will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to community development and the overall aesthetic and functionality of our urban landscape.”

Trustee Adam Borrelli said when he ran for the board in 2019, one of his top priorities was to ensure the village begin construction of this project.

Borrelli said the road will alleviate traffic flow, establish a bike trail from the northern part of the village to the Old Plank Road Trail and spur development by establishing new businesses in the roughly 200 acres of land near the road.

The comprehensive plan outlines development potential around Pfeiffer Road including space for an indoor recreation facility, a community park and commercial businesses.

“We have all sorts of ideas,” Borrelli said. “The businesses would help with revenues and the development of residential properties.”
