Dianne Masters would have turned 77 years old in June, But she was slain in 1982, a crime that later sent her husband to prison for his involvement.

Before that, she helped establish what would become the Crisis Center for South Suburbia as a phone hotline operating out of her kitchen.

That initial effort has grown into an organization that employs 74 people, operates on a budget of over $6 million and provides an array of domestic violence services that impact thousands of South Side residents every year, according to a news release.

But the organization still holds close the memory of its founding member, and on Aug. 8, the 30th Annual Dianne Masters Cup will take place at Silver Lake Country Club, 14700 S. 82nd Ave. in Orland Park.

“The golf outing is our second biggest fundraiser each year,” said board member Dave Anders. “It has grown quite a bit over the years. Our sponsorships are up, as are our number of golfers. We have enjoyed a great deal of community support, with many sponsors having over 20 plus years of involvement. The outing is always one of the most enjoyable events each year.”

The shelter provides emergency housing and counseling services for those experiencing domestic violence situations, along with tools that help them “move toward a life free of abuse,” Anders said.

Registration for golf, bidding on auction items and more information about the event are at DMCgolf2023.givesmart.com or 708-429-7255.
