Glencoe’s Village Board has approved two contracts in another step toward construction of the new clubhouse at the Glencoe Golf Club.

At their July 20 meeting, trustees unanimously approved an approximate $1.36 million contract with FGM Architects for architectural and other services for construction management services. Trustees also passed a pact with W.B. Olson for construction management services.

These moves follow voter approval of a $15 million bond sale referendum in April allowing for the construction of a new clubhouse/pro shop along with a series of other amenities.

Staff indicated at a June Committee of the Whole meeting they wanted to proceed with FGM, continuing an informal partnership that started years ago when discussions were held about the future of the golf club.

FGM has worked at many other area golf courses including ones in Evanston, Glenview and Deerfield.

“The Village Board and the (Golf Advisory) committee have met with this firm which showed us how very qualified it is to do this project,” Village President Howard Roin said.

The funds from the FGM contract will also pay needed the subcontractors anticipated to be used during the project, according to village officials.

The trustees also signed off on a separate construction management services contract with W.B. Olson where the village will pay the firm a preconstruction fee of $35,000 and a professional services fee of 2.5% of the total cost of construction.

Of the role W.B. Olson would play in the project, Assistant to the Village Manager Jon Pape said they would be, “making sure that we are not designing something that is not going to be able to constructed on time and on budget and starting to help guide those decisions and making sure both hands are talking to each other throughout the whole process.”

FGM and W.B. Olson have worked together in the past on other projects, village documents note.

Pape said the goal is to start construction next year.

Besides the new clubhouse/pro shop, a series of other features are expected including an event lawn/open space where games can be played, a bicycle repair and rest station, indoor golf simulators, a croquet court and a community and a new parking lot.

In corresponding action, trustees also approved the creation of a new ad hoc design review committee as well as the selection of the members to serve on that group.
