The Buffalo Grove Village Board recently approved the $17.9 million design and construction of a new Public Works Department facility.
On a vote of 6-0 at the June 19 board meeting, trustees approved a contract with Frederick Quinn Corporation for the construction of the new facility at 1650 Leider Lane.
According to Jim Warnstedt, assistant Public Works director, his team was able to secure $3.6 million in savings on the project based on two rounds of designs for the building. The village, he said, received 128 bids for the construction project.
“I know you’ve cut a lot of costs,” Village President Eric Smith told Warnstedt, expressing his gratitude.
Also at the meeting, Smith invited members of the LGBTQ community to the dais as he read a proclamation acknowledging gay pride month. Three teens stood before the board and Carolyn Pinta, director of Pinta Pride Project, which hosts the Buffalo Grove Pride Parade, addressed the board.
“On behalf of Buffalo Grove pride and the Pinta Pride Project, we are overwhelmed with the way this project has grown since 2018 with the incredible support of this village,” Pinta said, also thanking the police department for its support during the parade. “I hope you are so proud of how equality and equity continues to grow in this village.”
Also during the meeting, Brett Robinson, the past president of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove, presented Kevin Gatto with the Rotary Firefighter of the Year Award. Gatto, who has been a firefighter/paramedic with the department for 30 years, was recognized for his service with a $500 award to charity.
The Village Board also approved an expense of $183,000 for painting of the bridge at Route 83. The work is scheduled to take place late this summer.
