Skokie residents in search of international groceries from ube ice cream to Asian teas to kabocha squash have a new option in Skokie International Market, located on the 5300 block of Lincoln Avenue, north of downtown Skokie.
Store manager Sammi Cen said the market, at 5314 Lincoln, opened July 4 and is still stocking its shelves, but plans to host a ribbon cutting in late August.
Cen said the store, which occupies the former U.S. Toy store, will eventually feature live seafood options and a bakery.
“We want to offer all the people around our store what they need,” Cen said.

Currently, the market stocks goods from China, Taiwan, India, Korea, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam among other nations. Cen said customers can find competitive prices for staples like rice, tea and produce as well as snacks like cucumber and roasted fish flavored chips.
Store owner Yue Sheng Liang owns the Sun Wing Supermarket in Chicago’s Chinatown and wholesale stores in New York and Texas, according to information from the village of Skokie.
