Lemont’s student business leaders place at state
Lemont High School’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America placed among the top 10 in 11 of its 14 events at the 2023 FBLA State Leadership Conference last month. Students from seven events finished among the top four in their respective competitions to earn berths to the 2023 FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta.
Seniors Dominic Auriemma (Marketing), Jacob Heusuk (Cyber Security) and Julia Janowski (Digital Animation) all placed third in their events, while junior Natalia Zagata (Publication Design) and sophomore Vikram Oberai (Mobile Application Development) finished fourth in theirs. Juniors Ethan Bator, Danny Drobnic and Krystian Kozieja combined for fourth in Computer Game and Simulation Programming, as did sophomores Russell Daniloff and Ali Nabulsi in Sales Presentation. Other medalists included senior Lauren Meyer (7th, Business Financial Plan), juniors Mallory Corse and Adyson DuVall (8th, Business Ethics), sophomore Amad Yaagoub (9th, Intro to Social Media Strategies) and freshman Joey Fiore (7th, Digital Video Production).
Crestwood’s Hoehn named to Order of the Engineer
Crestwood’s Zachary Hoehn was inducted into the Order of the Engineer during a recent ceremony at Trine University’s Allen School of Engineering and Computing. Hoehn is majoring in mechanical engineering.
Manhattan’s Gordon recognized at honors convocation
Manhattan’s Shawna Gordon was awarded The Dean’s Purchase Award in Art at the 2023 Mount Union Honors Convocation.
The dean of the College of Arts and Humanities chose the works entitled “Deconstruction” and “Cardinal Styx” in recognition of Gordon’s outstanding achievement in art during the academic year. These prizewinning works can become part of the university’s permanent collection.
Boehm to lead Homewood-Flossmoor Park District

Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has appointed Doug Boehm as its new executive director.
A longtime resident of the community, Boehm joined the HFPD in 2006 and has held a variety of leadership roles over his tenure including ice arena manager, superintendent of recreation and superintendent of parks and planning.
Boehm is replacing Debbie Kopas who is retiring in June after over 30 years of service to the HFPD.
Midlothian’s Donegan earns prestigious award
Dominique Donegan, a native of Midlothian, was recently named to the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society’s 2023 class of the Member of Distinction program from McKendree University.
Lemont’s Ticknor named Superintendent of Distinction
Lemont High School District 210 Superintendent Mary Ticknor has been named the 2023 Superintendent of Distinction by her colleagues in the Cook South Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators. Ticknor was honored at an awards luncheon on May 3.
“It’s an honor to receive this award, but every accomplishment that led to this has been a joint effort,” Ticknor said. “I share this recognition with the Lemont High School administrative team, staff and board of education. When everyone puts students first and works together, good things happen.”
