Bond was set Monday at $50,000 for a Chicago woman charged with leading police on a high-speed chase Saturday.
Jenail White, 34, of the 1400 block of South Millard Avenue, has been charged with one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Peace Officer, a Class 4 Felony, and multiple misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, according to information from the office of DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. White’s bond was set by Judge Susan Alvarado.
An Oak Brook police officer saw a Nissan Rogue, reportedly driven by White, traveling eastbound on 22nd Street near Route 83 with a paper license plate, according to Berlin’s office. The officer ran the plate and found it was registered to a different vehicle, which prompted to officer to activated his emergency lights and sirens.
Instead of pulling over, White reportedly turned northbound on Route 83 and in heavy traffic to flee from the officer, traveling more than 70 miles per hour on the shoulder of the road. White then reportedly went eastbound on Roosevelt Road, where she reached speeds of 94 mph, before going eastbound on Interstate 290, on which she also drove at 94 mph on the shoulder of the road in stopped traffic.
White reportedly exited I-290 at the Cicero Avenue exit, where she sideswiped a vehicle and crashed into a fence. After crashing the Nissan, White exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody, Berlin’s office said.
“It is alleged that in a complete and utter disregard for public safety and the rule of law, Ms. White drove her car on the shoulder of the road, in stopped traffic, at speeds in excess of 90 mph,” Berlin said. “In DuPage County we will not stand idly by while those who think the law does not apply to them terrorize our streets. We are incredibly lucky no one was hurt as a result of Ms. White’s alleged actions.”
Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said he was thankful that no one was hurt.
“I’d like to thank our officers for remaining vigilant and proactive in keeping our community safe,” he said. “I’d also like to thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their guidance and for sending a strong message through charging and prosecution that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”
White’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 5 for arraignment in front of Judge Michael Reidy.
