Let’s ‘draft’ a president: As things stand now, pending Mr. Trump’s legal woes, our choice in the 2024 presidential sweepstakes comes down to an aging politician whose hair plugs qualify as antiques and a serial womanizer who thinks an ideal setting for a first date takes place in a woman’s dressing room. If only this nation put the same effort into our national elections that the NFL does in choosing their first-round draft picks.

Left-behind equipment: A reader thinks we should go back to the moon and bring back millions of dollars in equipment left there. But we don’t have to go to the moon, only to Afghanistan, to retrieve over $83 billion in U.S. equipment Joe Biden gave to our enemies in one of the biggest political blunders in the history of our country!

Food for thought: While common sense dictates that statistics are meaningless unless they lead to some form of enlightenment and change, I offer the following numbers for your consideration: guns are now the No. 1 killer of children in this country and one in 25 five-year-olds won’t live to see 40. If we stopped these deaths tomorrow, beginning with sensible gun control measures, it’d effectively add three years to every 5-year-old in the South, where lax gun laws have had the most dramatic impact.

Gun owner psych exams: Is it possible that rather than banning firearms, we require everyone who wants to own a firearm to not only go through a criminal background check but submit to a psych exam that shows they are not a threat to themselves or the public and do it each time they apply for a permit? True, criminals will ignore it, but others won’t. Since it appears many aren’t focused on criminals getting guns, this should resolve the issues about everyone else.

Sox are a disgrace: With their latest losing streak, the White Sox have gone from a bitter disappointment to a total disgrace. Does anyone know if Arlington Heights is looking for a baseball team too?
