Construction season in Buffalo Grove is kicking off with a resurfacing project on McHenry Road/Route 83 by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Officials posted on the village’s Facebook page that IDOT is expected to begin work on the roadway the week of April 10.

The social media post explains that the work is to include “concrete repairs and resurfacing of Illinois 83 from just north of Buffalo Grove Road to just south of Bank Lane.”

Village officials posted offered more information on the project in the latest edition of the village’s electronic newsletter, including an explainer that the project will include Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant corners.

Buffalo Grove spans two counties and officials explained that some roads in the northwest suburb are owned and maintained by the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways, the Lake County Division of Transportation and IDOT.

Roads that are outside the village’s jurisdiction and owned and maintained by the IDOT include Dundee Road/Route 68, Half Day Road/Route 22, McHenry Road/Route 83 and Milwaukee Avenue/U.S. Highway 45/Route 21, according to the village of Buffalo Grove website.

According to village officials, construction signage for the McHenry Road/Route 83 resurfacing project will be popping up soon.

“Expect delays if traveling in the area and consider alternate routes,” officials cautioned.

According to the village e-newsletter, the 2023 construction season in Buffalo Grove is expected to be milder in comparison to planned future improvements.

“The village’s Public Works Department is busy collaboratively designing the next phase of the Infrastructure Modernization Program that will feature several capital improvements during the 2024 to 2027 construction seasons,” officials said in the newsletter.

Other major village projects during the 2023 construction season include crossing improvements across Deerfield Parkway, painting of the bridge over Route 83 and quiet zone median work at the rail crossings on Deerfield Parkway and Half Day Road/Route 22.

There also will be a variety of other maintenance projects to be done by Public Works crews as well as contractors, officials stated in the newsletter.

“Other agency projects planned for this year will inconvenience motorists,” officials cautioned.

Those projects include Lake County Division of Transportation’s Aptakisic Road widening project and Cook Country Department of Transportation and Highway’s Lake-Cook Road concrete patching and overlay project, the newsletter states.
