Give businesses a break: In regards to the proposed tax/charge for paper or plastic bags at stores, I have to agree with the person who said that after coming out of the pandemic, finally getting to a point of almost normal but then dealing with the ever-increasing prices, charging this additional tax to businesses is ridiculous. Oh, maybe the big chain stores could handle it but your small businesses? Elgin needs to look at ALL businesses. It’s been tough for many and to me this is just a slap in the face.

Lost in translation: I’d like to know why so many businesses place employees who don’t speak English clearly in customer service jobs. It’s bad enough that you are calling because you have some problem, then you get connected to a person to whom you have to keep repeating, “What?” “What?” It’s maddening! From now on I’m going to tell them I’ll call back later, and then I’ll call back and get a different person.

Too much NRA influence: Much of the Republican Party falls under the NRA influence. The majority of Americans support tighter gun control laws, yet the gun lobbyists are dictating that we ignore the consequences. Gun manufacturers and many gun owners do not support tougher gun laws that could help curb future killings. They won’t even addresses the assault weapons often used in mass killings.

How do they sleep? If only I could buy into whatever Donald Trump and his right-wing conspirators have to dish out, my life would be so much less complicated. His mindless speeches, filled with hatred and vindictiveness, have resulted in many sleepless nights filled with anxiety and fear. But at least I can look at myself in the mirror every morning knowing that he doesn’t own my soul and never will.

Hypocrisy available everywhere: Due in large part to the pandemic, this country is lacking nursing care, restaurant help, teachers and even chickens. But on the other hand, there’s no shortage of hypocrisy. The very same people who do nothing to curtail gun violence in our schools are the first to complain about what their children are being taught or shown in the classroom, including iconic Renaissance art.
