Trump’s a hack: Trump is a politician who belongs to a small clique that controls a political party for private rather than public ends. A political hack, the negative term ascribed to a person who is part of the political party apparatus, but whose intentions are more aligned with victory than personal conviction.

Real new distraction: While everyone is hyperventilating over Donald Trump’s possible indictment, there was another school shooting in this country (the 100th in the past 82 days as of today). What’s more, the feds ongoing battle with inflation is raising doubts we can avoid a recession. Once again, our nation’s obsession with the loudmouth from Mar-a-Lago is obscuring the real headlines. So what else is new?
We’ll end up paying: It’s nice to know that if your bank goes under, the FDIC will repay all depositors the full amount and even those in excess of their insured balances. The FDIC says they’ll collect these funds from the banking industry and not the consumers. However, what they don’t tell us is to make up these funds the banks will have to raise interest rates on home and car loans and further reduce the interest paid on deposits, if that’s possible. It’s a shame the same doesn’t apply to stock market losses.
Good Vickroy dog column: Kudos to Donna Vickroy on her column about unleashed dogs. We shouldn’t need reminders, but apparently many of us do. Have we forgotten the horrible incident a few years ago when an intensive care unit nurse was mauled to death by an unleashed pit bull when she was out for a run in Dan Ryan Woods. Owners who violate laws on leashing dogs should be heavily fined and, in the event their dogs attack or kill a human, the dog owners should be jailed.
Republican in name only: I don’t wish Mitch McConnell bad but he should retire. The Republican Party certainly can’t rely on his backing. He’s a proven RINO. One has to wonder about why he recently voted to back Biden. Maybe it was because he didn’t want to upset his wife’s business dealings with China and that vote would keep the Biden’s connections happy, too.
Wall supporter: Regardless of what you think of Donald Trump, at least if he were still president we would have the wall.
Go ahead and lie! My adult daughters have started telling lots of lies to their grandfather. They think that since he watches Fox News, it’s OK. I can’t argue with that.
