A registered sex offender living in Carpentersville has been arrested on charges he owned and copied videos and photos containing child pornography.

Sergio L. Rivas, 41, of the 7000 block of Lowell Drive, faces two counts of reproducing child pornography with a victim younger than 13 and one count each of possession of child pornography with a victim younger than 13, possession of child pornography and failure to register as a sex offender, which are all felony charges.

Rivas allegedly reproduced and possessed multiple child porn videos and images prior to Dec. 31, according to a news release issued by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser and Sheriff Ron Hain. He also failed to register social media accounts with the Carpentersville Police Department in accordance with the Sex Offender Registration Act, the release said.

Rivas was arrested on a warrant on March 10 and was released from the Kane County jail on $30,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 22.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force assisted with the investigation.
