A man found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman he found asleep at a party in West Dundee could face anywhere from 12 to 45 years in prison when sentenced, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
Sheah M. Brown, 27, of the 5900 block of Woodgate Drive, Matteson, was convicted of three counts of felony criminal sexual assault/unable to give consent by Judge David P. Kliment, who revoked Brown’s $5,000 bond and ordered him to be held in the Kane County jail until sentencing.
Prosecutors said Brown, who waived his right to a jury trial, was at a party on Feb. 2, 2020, at a home on Canterfield Parkway East when he saw the victim asleep on a living room sofa and sexually assaulted her.
Unless the judge opts to give him probation, Brown faces a minimum prison term of 12 years and must register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life per state law.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 30.
“I am proud of this victim for the courage she showed in sitting in the courtroom and confronting the defendant, who refused to be accountable for his criminal actions,” Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Amanda Busljeta said in a statement.
