A 20-year-old suspect being held at the Elgin Police Department on gun and drug offenses was found dead in his jail cell Sunday morning, police said.
The man, identified by the Kane County Coroner’s Office as Patryk Lankamer, of Roselle, was arrested about 8:40 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop during which weapons and illegal drugs were found, a police post on the department’s Facebook page said.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Lankamer with multiple weapon and drug-related offenses and he was being held in the police department jail until a bond hearing could be held.
When a jail check was done about 5 a.m. Sunday, they found the man unresponsive in his cell, the post said. Jail personnel took life-saving measures until Elgin Fire Department paramedics/EMTs could arrive, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead, according to the report.
The statement said “no force was used during his arrest or while he was in custody.”
The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating, which is standard protocol, the post said.
