A man believed to have been following and making inappropriate comments to female students walking home from Abbott Middle School this week has been arrested by Elgin police.

Alan S. Rendon, 25, of the 500 block of North Grove Avenue in Elgin, was charged with two counts of felony stalking by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. His bond was set at $100,000 in court Saturday.

An Abbott student reported to police Wednesday that a man had been following students in his car and attempting to engage them by making “inappropriate statements” while they walked in the 300 and 400 blocks of Standish Street between 3:30 and 4 p.m., a police Facebook post said.

The suspect was described as being Hispanic, in his 20s and having short hair and some facial hair, police said. He was reportedly driving a silver or beige Ford Edge SUV.

Police provided extra patrols in the area after school in the days following the incident, the report said, but no information on what led to the Rendon’s arrest and charges was released.
