Billionaire Ken Griffin has announced he’s backing Ron DeSantis for president. I sure hope he stays that course. Griffin spent millions supporting Richard Irvin, and he got annihilated by Darren Bailey. Marjorie Taylor Green, in an obvious nod to Trumpism, has also warned DeSantis, and other top Republicans, not to run in 2024. Don’t you just love watching conservatives implode?

Wes, Orland Park

So here we go. Again, perhaps two old geezers in their 80s will run for president. I don’t have a real problem with the age of 80, but I was hoping the candidates combined ages would equal 80. Two rocking chairs from Amazon sure seem appropriate.

YCM, Orland Park

Well now that the elections are over, I’m a conservative and of course, I’m disappointed with pretty much everything in Illinois. But the Republicans have to take the blame for a few things. The first thing they got to take blame for is Roe v. Wade. Could have just left that alone. I work the polls. I’m a precinct captain and the women that voted, voted Democrat for women’s rights. So there’s a lesson to be learned here. Don’t mess with something that isn’t broken.

Tom, Burbank

I wonder if the Pelosis and other Democrats are still big supporters of sanctuary cities, like San Francisco, after an illegal immigrant attacked Mr. Pelosi in his home?

Dolly, Homer Glen, Biden has about 20 hours a day of down time with his four-hour days. How about another teaching moment, we have no way to charge electric vehicles if we all had them, no grid of charging stations and the vast majority of electricity is generated by fossil fuels. Get ready for rolling blackouts, taking turns driving and having your lights on in your home. Say goodbye to a road trip and get your bicycle tuned up. The Texas ice storm proved that wind is not the answer. Welcome to the socialist utopia!

Dan, Palos Heights

A contributor said they never saw one thing Biden has done because we attack the twice-impeached Trump. Well, here goes: Restores American leadership in the world, American Rescue Plan, infrastructure law passed, expanded health care, Inflation Reduction Act included making corporations pay their fair share of taxes, climate change, lowering drug cost, no increase in our taxes for people making under $400,000 per year, improved health care for veterans and signed the CHIPS Act.

Ted Slowik wrote Nov. 4 that claims of abuse are no longer a cause for disqualification thanks to GOP. Actually, that precedent was set long ago by JFK, LBJ, WJC and more recently by Joe Biden.

Bill, Plainfield

Ted Slowik refers to Donald Trump and Herschel Walker as lowlifes. What we need are more real politicians like Madigan and Burke. Then take a good look, Congress is loaded with lowlifes.

Jim, South Holland

According to your newspaper, and especially Ted Slowik, the two parties can be best described as the evil, extreme, far-right, hateful, divisive, sexist, racist Republicans or the center-of-the-road Democrats who simply don’t believe the Republicans have the right to exist. Oh, and the Republican plan for inflation is to stop pumping unlimited money into an already inflationary cycle — economics 101.

Gary, Oak Forest

Several comments have been made about Ted Slowik, one stating he is biased regarding the Republican Party. Slowik just doesn’t sit at his desk and write. He’s all over the place throughout the Southland. Dolton, Harvey, just call on him and he will be there. Several weeks ago, he wrote about the property tax system and stated lobbyists have leaned on lawmakers to rig the system. The system wrongly takes money from the poor Black folks and gives it to rich white people. Comments like this doesn’t cut the mustard with some readers because sometimes the truth hurts.

BJ, Hazel Crest

Southtown sanctions another partisan political hit piece by Ted Slowik stating abuse claims no longer disqualify candidates, thanks to the GOP. Slowik conveniently forgets Democratic abuses far predating Donald Trump/Herschel Walker, as well as Raphael Warnock. For instance, Sen. Ted Kennedy ran his car off a bridge and left a woman, not his wife, to drown and never disqualified his runs. Or his waitress sandwiches with Sen. Chris Dodd. And, how can we forget serial-abuser Bill Clinton or his enabler, Hillary? No, the abuse of women did not start with the GOP. It is a fault of humankind that ignores God.

David, Tinley Park

With all the political garbage being thrown around it is so heartwarming to see people like Deborah Simental and Kevin Jackson doing good things in this divisive negative world. God bless them for being a ray of sunshine and hope.

Kathy, Elwood

Watching the NBA on TV is a waste of time the first three quarters of the game. They trade shots keeping a game close. Then the last quarter they play with more intensity. So basketball fans, wait to the last quarter to watch the game.

Mr. G, Chicago

A person who works in law enforcement’s car was stolen from their Oak Forest driveway. My question is, with all the known car thefts going on, why would you leave your loaded duty weapon in your car on your driveway?

Linda, Orland Park

Someone wrote about the Emmett Till movie and encouraged others to see it. In addition, a statue of him went up in Mississippi and last year his childhood home in Chicago was designated an official landmark. I only wish his grave would be cared for better, because nearly every time a photo of it is published, it looks neglected. You would think that through his prominence, the cemetery staff or local groups would tend to it regularly. The people in Mississippi probably look at his statue and don’t know that back in Chicago, Till’s final resting place is often surrounded by high weeds, dead grass and dried-up flowers.
