
A 15-year-old girl who was fatally shot inside a residence in the Marquette Park neighborhood Tuesday evening has been identified, officials said Wednesday.
Shaniya Daniels was on the third floor of a residence in the 2400 block of West Marquette Road when she was shot in the head around 6:50 p.m., the Chicago Police Department said in a media notification and the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed.
Daniels, who was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m., died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Police said Tuesday night they were questioning a person of interest in connection with the shooting, but no updates had been provided as of Wednesday morning.
