A 25-year old Chicago man accused of having a gun and threatening a man he knows at Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville has been charged with aggravated assault and violating the concealed carry act, two misdemeanor offenses, police said.

Tyronn L. Jones, Jr., of the 1200 block of South State Street in Chicago, was arrested without incident after police were called to the water park at 4:21 p.m. Friday after getting a report of a man in possession of a concealed firearm inside the park threatening someone he knows, police said.

A handgun was recovered by police, officials said. Firearms are prohibited at Raging Waves.

Yorkville police and Raging Waves Waterpark officials issued a joint statement after the arrest was made.

“During this unfortunate incident, the staff of Raging Waves and the police officers that responded showed a high level of commitment and professionalism to ensure the safety of all guests,” according to the statement.

In the statement, officials said “this was not a random act” and that it “should also be noted that the firearm in this case was not pointed” at anyone.

The man was removed from the park in a safe manner, according to the statement.

“Raging Waves and the Yorkville Police Department will continue to ensure that the safety of all visitors and staff is our greatest priority. In addition to the close working relationship, Raging Waves continues to be progressive regarding their security measures at the park,” according to the statement.

Yorkville police were assisted on the scene by police from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery, Oswego and Plano departments. The Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team and Raging Waves staff assisted on the scene as well, according to officials.
