Congratulations to Latrelle, Delvon, Leterious and Jameir in taking part and receiving first and second place awards in the South Suburban College Robotics Olympics. Because Hillcrest High School doesn’t offer engineering or robotics courses, these young men worked this project in their free time. Rest assured, all four of you will succeed in any career you choose. You all got what it takes. Bravo!

Pat, Midlothian

The picture that accompanied Ted Slowik’s Memorial Day opinion column was perfect. It hearkened back to a mask-wearing man in a grocery last July. Several recent studies indicate that it’s been hard returning to the real world for people who have enjoyed these past two years of forced avoidance of other humans. As COVID-19, like all other viruses, morphs and weakens, these folks still cling to the sad mask-intensive narrative as they continue interacting only with pets and wearing masks even when walking their dogs in the park.

Christine, Evergreen Park

When that fetus looks like a real live baby, I think it’s too late for choice.

Diana, Orland Park

I find it amusing that some people do not want police officers in uniform to march in the Gay Pride Parade in Aurora. I thought these were the people pushing for diversity, inclusion and acceptance.

M, Oak Forest

Thank you Geri of Tinley Park for your observations of pay raises and perks. It seems that you’ve visited Glenwood, where the administration gives cart blanch to appointed, not elected officials. Board meetings are really staff meetings, nothing involving the residents, it’s no wonder only five or six residents show up.

Jeff, Glenwood

Jesse Sullivan says he will never apologize for his faith. Here is another thing he won’t do, become governor.

Marv, Bridgeview

It’s everyone’s democratic responsibility to vote. So it’s people’s responsibility not to vote for the Democratic Party. Look at states and cities run by Democrats, high taxes, high crime rates. Look no further than Chicago. There has not been a Republican mayor since 1932. Have the Democrats done anything good for the inner city of Chicago? Crime has now gotten worse in downtown Chicago. Vote Democrats out of office.

Bob, Frankfort

When is the last time we had any ex-military run for any office in Chicago or Illinois or national? We need ex-military to run for some of these offices. We need somebody with experience of how to handle situations.

Don, Chicago

I want to make myself perfectly clear. If you have a gun legally in your household or have a permit to carry one for your protection, I am 100% in your corner. But we are holding the Second Amendment hostage because we are the only country that cannot control guns. Our lawmakers, namely the Republicans, keep passing the buck and not voting for any type of gun control. The gun lobbyists give millions of dollars to the Republican Party. So that leaves us with the bottom line, money talks.

BJ, Hazel Crest

Continued stonewalling is not the response this country needs from the Republican Party. Make a move. Counting the money that the NRA gives you doesn’t count. Maybe you should buy a conscience with some of that cash? When are we going to start voting theses scoundrels out of office?

MJ, Worth

As long as the news people keep reporting the killings and shootings are going up, the gang bangers try to break the record the next week. It’s a shooting game like a pinball machine. How high can you go?

Mr. G, Chicago

To Kate from Hometown. Where do you get your information from, Fox News or outer space? How are white people more homicidal when Black people kill each other every day and twice on Sunday?

Bruce, Chicago

Here’s a surefire way the city of Chicago could save a large sum of money. Cancel the Chicago Bureau of Tourism and shut down the entire department. Mayor, nobody’s coming to Chicago. Shootings and violence running rampant in the city, Millennium Park, River North, Mag Mile and Navy Pier just to name a few. Perhaps Mayor Lightfoot can divert the money saved for another handout? Perhaps free gas and or groceries. This should win her a few more votes in her next failed campaign for mayor.

YCM, Orland Park

They say people have gone through hell. Quit blaming people with mental health. They are as sane as anyone else. Shooters just don’t care about human life, yours mine or anyone else. It’s not mental health. They are just trying to find an excuse to blame it on people with mental health.

LT, Glenwood

Every time our government mentions the possibility of enacting more gun control, more guns are sold. More people conclude that our Founding Fathers were correct when they added the Second Amendment to our Constitution for protection from a tyrannical government.

Bill, Plainfield

After the tragedy in Uvalde, ex President Trump spoke a the NRA convention in Houston, where he was quoted as saying clearly we need to make it easier to confine the violent and mentally deranged into mental institutions. I couldn’t agree more, and Trump should be the first standing in line.

Kevin, Oak Lawn

Mr. G from Chicago, you are absolutely correct. But no matter how they slice it they are still a male or a female They can do whatever they want to change their bodies, but you’re still a male or a female from birth, and men don’t make pretty women. Why do nice looking guys and not so nice looking guys want man buns and pineapples on their heads, and the athletes with their long greasy hair and beards they can’t grow or chin ponytails? We have more than a major dilemma.

Frances, Orland
