Norridge police reported a man walking across Lawrence Avenue was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling westbound on March 23 just after 7:30 p.m.

The man, identified as Eugene Biolik, 69, was walking northbound across the four-lane road near Opal Avenue, and was not in a crosswalk, according to police.

“It was raining at the time—a heavy drizzle, and the roads were slick,” said Norridge Police Chief Brian Goss. “And it was dark enough that visibility wasn’t the greatest.”

Sunset took place at 7:06 p.m. that day, according to weather records.

After the impact, Goss said Norwood Township Fire Department personnel took Biolik to Amita Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, where he was pronounced dead.

Biolik was apparently headed to his home nearby, Goss said.

The driver of the car who struck Biolik was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, where a blood test showed no impairment, Goss said.

Police ticketed her, he added, for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to use due care, no insurance and improper lane usage.
