Somya Elkenani, 41, of the 8500 block of Foster Avenue, Chicago, on March 20 was charged with child endangerment when her 3-year-old child wandered off unsupervised from their home, Norridge police said.
Two people found the child walking around in the 5100 block of Cumberland and tried to determine where the child lived, said Norridge Police Chief Brian Goss.
Police who canvassed the area were advised that a woman living in the 8500 block of West Foster was looking for her son. The woman was found and taken into custody, said Norridge Police Sgt. Brian Loughran.
Goss said police released the child to the child’s father, who lives at the same address as Elkenani. Police notified the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. In such cases, DCFS investigates and makes a plan for the child’s safety, Goss said.
Elkenani will have a court hearing at Rolling Meadows courthouse for the child endangerment charge, a misdemeanor.
