Dryer fire damages town home laundry room
A dryer fire Sunday caused $2,500 damage to the laundry room of a town house near 87th and Washington streets, according to a Naperville Fire Department report.
The two residents of the residence in the 1900 block of Lancaster Court evacuated safely before firefighters arrived about 7 p.m. to find flames coming out of a drying making their way up the wall, the report said.
It took seven minutes for firefighters to extinguish the blaze, which was limited to the laundry room, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported, and the building was deemed habitable by the city’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development team.

Forest preserve district buys two sites near Whalon
The Forest Preserve District of Will County has purchased the 33-acre Hidden Oaks Nature Center and Hidden Lakes Trout Farm, located just south of the Whalon Lake Forest Preserve, for $2.7 million.
A DuPage River Trail boardwalk, which was built in 2015, will connect the Hidden Oaks area in Bolingbrook to the Whalon Lake preserve in Naperville.
The forest preserve district bought the Hidden Oaks site from the Bolingbrook Park District, which was looking to reduce its debt, according to a news release. The district used its reserve funds for the purchase.

District Executive Director Ralph Schultz said the two sites will offer northern Will County residents dozens of program opportunities. “When combined, the Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Lakes Trout Farm, Whalon Lake preserve and the DuPage River Trail will provide dozens of program opportunities,” Schultz said in the release.
It will also ensure the area is preserved and open to the public, the release said.
The Hidden Oaks Nature Center, 419 Trout Farm Road, is about 7,000 square feet. It provides access to trails and has a pavilion with a fireplace, outdoor amphitheater, green roof, and historical and nature exhibits.
Hidden Lakes Trout Farm consists of four fishing ponds adjacent to the east branch of the DuPage River. The forest preserve district plans to build a bait shop/concessions stand, a news release said.
The nature center and lakes will reopen this summer.
