Disrepectful, ‘vulgar’ name-calling must end

Disrespect seems to be rampant these days, often under the guise of “freedom of speech.” I am so sick of all the name-calling going on in our society at every level. It’s stupid and cheap and exposes the originator for who they really are. In some cases name-calling is simply vulgar.

Remember that word, vulgar? It isn’t used often enough anymore. There once were standards of discourse, which apparently have disappeared. If you can’t make a point without being disrespectful, then you should keep your opinion to yourself.

Good job, NCTV17 — and happy 35th anniversary

The month of January was proclaimed Naperville Community Television Channel 17 Month in honor of the channel’s 35 years of local storytelling. And what a terrific job they have done, delivering timely, relevant programming!

Local scientists tipped off Mayor Rybicki back in the 1980s that a technology was coming that would ask for use of city property to string its cables. He formed an advisory committee, which advised that public access should be provided when awarding a cable franchise contract.

NCTV studio opened in 1987. Fast forward to today: professional and educational, with its finger on the community pulse, NCTV17 continues to inform, connect and engage its viewers.

Congratulations and thank you, NCTV17!

If you’re anti-police, you can’t be pro-public safety

As we end the first month of January 2022, more than 15 law enforcement officers in the U.S. have been shot. Most recently, six shot in a 48-hour period.

In 2021, 364 police officers were shot and 63 were killed by gunfire. The statistics demonstrate the war on cops is real.

During the Jan. 28 funeral service for New York police detective Jason Rivera, 22 years old, who was shot along with his his partner Wilbert Mora when they responded to a domestic violence call, Rivera’s wife said: “The system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore. Not even the members of the service.”

Dominique Luzuriaga went on to say, how her husband was “tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new (district attorney).”

Communities need to unite to support law enforcement during this devastating era of violence against police. If you are not pro-police, then you are anti-public safety. It’s that simple.
