The Hinsdale High School District 86 board unanimously approved a contract extension with the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association at the Jan. 13 meeting, giving teachers a 1.4% pay raise.

The contract, which was set to expire on June 30, 2022, will now run through June 30, 2023.

The pay increase represents the consumer price index, according to an email sent by district officials. Other pay rates like summer curriculum work, internal substitution and extracurricular stipends, will also increase by 1.4%.

The school board and members of the HHSTA were not available to share anything beyond the official, shared statement released last week, which says,

“The board of education, district administration and Hinsdale High School Teachers Association (HHSTA) have been engaged in a positive and productive dialogue about the future of our teacher contract. While that dialogue has reinforced our commitment to working toward and achieving a long-term deal, it also galvanized our shared belief that helping our students, staff, schools and community successfully navigate the pandemic must remain our top priority at this time.”

They added that by extending the contract, they are able to reward the hard work and dedication of educators, while pledging to work together on a long-term deal.

“We want to thank the representatives from HHSTA, the board and the administration who led this process. Your tireless efforts helped us reach a decision that will truly benefit our entire district and enable us to effectively address the ongoing challenges created by COVID-19. We want to thank the community for its unwavering support of our schools, especially in the face of so much adversity the past couple of years,” the statement said.
