Naperville’s Municipal Center and Public Safety Campus will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. Thursday after being closed since last week.

The Public Safety Campus closed Jan. 3 and the Municipal Center on Jan. 5 amid surging COVID-19 cases.

Mayor Steve Chirico said reopening makes sense because students are returning to school and because people have learned how to manage the risk.

Chirico said the city’s weekly conversations with DuPage County health officials Monday seemed to indicate the recent omicron variant surge was peaking, and hospitals, while busy, have been able to manage the higher number of COVID-19 patients.

“Also, the vaccination rate in our area is really high too,” he said.

The city will continue to give the public the option to conduct business online or by calling (630) 420-6111 to be connected to the appropriate department.
