Clinic for COVID vaccinations, boosters on Sunday

A walk-in COVID-19 vaccination walk-in clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Spring Hill Mall, 1072 Spring Hill Mall Drive, West Dundee/Carpentersville.

The clinic will take place in the former Payless shoe store near the Kohl’s store interior entrance to the rest of the mall.

Appointments are not necessary, but preregistration is available at KaneVax.org. The Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen COVID vaccines for will be offered.

Anyone seeking a booster shots should bring their vaccination card to the clinic.

Elgin’s daddy-daughter dances being held Feb. 25-26

Tickets are on sale for the city of Elgin’s Daddy Daughter Dance being held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 and 26 at the Heritage Ballroom in the Edward Schock Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

Princess Merida from the Disney/Pixar film “Brave” will be the theme for both nights, which will include a buffet-style dinner, dessert, dancing, goodie bags, a photo booth, an American Girl doll raffle drawing and prizes.

The dance is open to girls ages 2 to 17 and their fathers, guardians or parental figures. Tickets are $40 per pair and must be bought in advance at at www.cityofelgin.org/1842/DaddyDaughter-Dance or at the Schock Centre’s main desk. Each additional daughter costs $15 each.

Elgin home left uninhabitable after early morning fire

An early morning fire Thursday caused more than $40,000 in damage to a home in the 1300 block of Borden Drive in Elgin, officials said.

Elgin firefighters arrived shortly after midnight to find flames coming through the roof and part of the second floor of a two-story home, a reports said.

Crews brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, but extensive damage left the house uninhabitable. An investigation team is looking into the fire’s cause, which might be linked to faulty electrical wiring, the report said.

The family living in the home was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. No injuries were reported.
