Mismanaged for years

I read with some concern about the back and forth about the Bradbury Collection. Those interviewed for the piece were too polite to say it, but I will. A once gold medal winning library has been mismanaged under the city’s watch for years. They need to straighten out their own house, and are in no way capable of adding curator of this collection to their responsibilities. The library barely functions as it is on the $4.6 million Ann Taylor has allocated to them. I think Taylor should stay out of this. She is so revenue obsessed, I wouldn’t be surprised if she would try to sell this Waukegan cultural asset for cash to the highest bidder. The right place for this collection is with the Park District/Historical Society. They are professionals in the fields of cultural arts, curation, museum operations, asset management, environmental control, asset maintenance and serve as historians for the city.

That’s crazy

I can’t believe the price increases at Walmart in Zion. Today, for example, I looked at buying potato chips, up 15% from just a couple of weeks ago. Yes, 15%. I can see maybe 4 or 5%, but not 15. That’s crazy. Anyone else experiencing these kinds of increases?

America is losing

Seems that Russia and China are winning. The misinformation that they have been feeding the right-wing Trump “patriots” has infected their brains to the point where there is little hope for improvement. Certainly does not help that Fox News and Trump continue to use this misinformation to drive profits while dividing America even further.

What’s with the cross?

Mitt Romney and John F. Kennedy were the first candidates of their respective faiths to be nominated to run for president. Mike Pence is very religious. No one needed to prove this. Why did Jussie Smolett put a noose back around his neck after changing into clean clothes after the alleged attack? Why did Trump hold up a Bible? Why does the My Pillow guy wear a huge cross?

Bye-bye

I’m so tired of these anti-vaxxers crying about their choice and their freedoms. Americans have been required to vaccinate for over a hundred years that I know of, in order to live in this country and enter its schools. Vaccinations keep our country and it’s people alive and thriving. If you anti-vaxxers don’t want to follow our country’s requirements to live here safely, then go to another country where it’s not required. See how that works for you. Bye-bye. Toot-a-loo. See-YA.

Idea worth studying

I have long been an advocate of a city-manager form of government for Waukegan, and played an active role in the last serious attempt. The current system does not work, as the city continues to decline under ineffective, one-term mayors. I agree that the aldermen should be elected at-large, and be nonpartisan. They are local through and through. I disagree that the top city officials should be nonaligned. One more thought. The voter education campaign and community forums required to do this properly and non-politically need to be staffed and funded independently of the city coffers and resources. The city is not off to a good start by using the city corporate counsel in the initial stages. While the alderpersons and Taylor have the right to voice their opinions, these are only their opinions and they are only residents like the rest of us. This is the voters’ decision, and the voters need to have unbiased facts inclusive of all residents’ voices and not filtered through some Chicago-based lawyer.

Send in the clowns

A recent writer in the sports section lamented the fact that TV viewers had a difficult choice to make when lost tapes of Bozo the Clown would be aired on TV at the same time as when the Chicago Bulls would play LeBron James and the Lakers. To me, the choice was easy with three options, you could watch Bozo the Clown, LeBron the Clown, or even tune in to Biden the Clown.
