Justin Dalcollo, 37, whose last known address was in Nicholasville, Kentucky, was found guilty by a DuPage County jury of six counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count each of armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in connection with the March 2019 incident.
The trial lasted five days but the jury needed just two hours to convict Dalcollo of all counts. DuPage and Kane county prosecutors handled the case jointly because the felony crimes occurred in both counties, a news release said.
Dalcollo was armed with a gun when he forced his way into the victim’s car about 3:30 p.m. March 22, 2019, as she was leaving the Bloomingdale Court Mall on Army Trail Road, the release said. He ordered her to drive to a bank in Glendale Heights and to remove $300 from her account using her debit card.
She was then told to drive to several locations in Hanover Park and Bartlett before he had her go to the parking garage at Elgin’s Grand Victoria Casino, where he sexually assaulted her, the release said.
The victim was then told to drive to a convenience store in Elgin and accompany Dalcollo inside, where he ordered her to call him a cab using her cell phone, the release said. He had her drive him to the Elgin train station, where the cab picked him up.
The woman went to an area hospital, where she reported the sexual assault and police were notified, the release said. The Bloomingdale Police Department, assisted by other agencies, tracked Dalcollo to Chicago the following day.
Dalcollo remains in the DuPage County jail, where he has been held without bond since his arrest. He is scheduled to return to court Jan. 7 and could be sentenced to as many as 135 years in prison, the release said.
“The jury’s verdict in this case confirms what we have been known all along, that Justin Dalcollo abducted, sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint an innocent young woman who had returned home from school to enjoy spring break with family and friends,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
“But instead of enjoying her time at home, the victim was terrorized, physically and emotionally, by Mr. Dalcollo. I commend the victim in this case for the incredible strength and courage she showed in facing her attacker in open court.”
