Man of the Year nominee: No one is asking but my vote for Time’s “Person of the Year” goes to Eugene Goodman, the security officer inside the Capitol Building on Jan. 6 who risked his life to save our democracy.

Still not normal: We all need to take a deep breath because when we thought everything was slowly getting back to normal, bang, we are hit once again with another COVID-19 variant. It was stated the best thing we can do is not panic. This statement is easier said than done because now the health care professionals are saying to get that third shot, known as a booster. You still have people who refuse to take the first shot. We do not need another lockdown, we need cooperation.

Quarantine confusion: I have a question because I’m confused. When someone in your household gets the coronavirus, the rest of family needs to be in quarantine seven to 10 days. I was in quarantine in the summer of 2020 for 23 days. So, in sports, especially in basketball, players get coronavirus but rest of the team doesn’t have to quarantine? They’re together a lot in practice and in games.

No good if it’s too late: Dr. Fauci says 99% of the people in the hospital with COVID-19 are not vaccinated. Many, unfortunately, die. The virus is going to be around for a long time. Save your life and possibly someone else’s. Get vaccinated before it’s too late! You don’t want take your last breath wishing you had got the vaccine like many unfortunate people do. You’ll never be able to read speak out again or, even worse, see your family and friends. Wake up!

Crime our biggest problem: The story regarding the Chicago area now having the worst traffic congestion in the country misses the point that political attention in the city and state are focused elsewhere. Pritzker spends almost full time issuing or renewing vaccine mandates, while the local politicians must continually defend themselves, the county and city as violent crime dominates. There is no longer time to worry about the unfortunate drivers who sit in traffic for far too much of their time.
