Two Chicago men were ordered held on bonds Wednesday after being charged in connection with an alleged Nov. 15 burglary of an Oak Brook home.

Peter Miller, 33, of the 6700 block of N. Olmstead Ave., Chicago, was ordered held on $300,000 bond, and Michael Miller, 25, of the 3400 block of N. Elston Ave., Chicago, was ordered held on $250,000, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Oak Brook Police Chief James Kruger announced in a news release.

Peter Miller and Michael Miller were both charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, the release said.

Around 6:38 p.m. on Nov. 15, according to the news release, members of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force were investigating a rash of more that two dozen forced-entry burglaries of single family homes when they identified a suspicious vehicle which had been parked outside about a Windsor Drive home for about six minutes. When they approached the vehicle, it fled and lead authorities on a high-speed chase eastbound on I-290.

The vehicle was able to flee from the officers but the Illinois State Police helicopter was able to track the vehicle to Burbank, the release said. Peter Miller and Michael Miller allegedly exited the vehicle with two other individuals. Peter Miller and Michael Miller were apprehended by officers from the Burbank and Bridgeview police departments, the release said.

Law enforcement authorities allege that while at the Oak Brook home, officers found the home’s rear sliding glass door damaged and the interior of the residence ransacked. It is also alleged that the defendants stole personal items, including a handgun, from the residence, according to the release.

On Nov. 16, the Lyons Police Department received a call from an individual who drove behind the alleged chase when she saw something spark on the ground behind the fleeing vehicle, the release said. When she inspected her car the following morning, she found a handgun lodged in her vehicle that allegedly matched the gun stolen from the Oak Brook residence the prior evening.

“Residential burglary can have a devastating effect not only on the victim of the crime, but also on the entire community,” Berlin said in a statement. “A family’s home is their sanctuary, providing safety and security to all within. Any violation of the protection a home provides will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force and effect of the law. I commend the Oak Brook Police Department for their work on this case and thank the Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Burbank, Bridgeport and Lyons Police Departments as well as the Illinois State Police for their assistance.”

Kruger said in release that the case was an example of cooperation between police departments.

“I am extremely proud of our officers’ work on this case and their tireless effort,” Kruger said. “Thank you to all of the other agencies involved. Let it be a message that we will not tolerate our residents becoming innocent victims.”

Both men are scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 1. An investigation into the matter continues. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Brook Police Department at (630) 368-8700.
