The Buffalo Grove Park District held a Veterans Day luncheon and ceremony that paid tribute to the village’s nearly two dozen veterans, as well as other residents who are veterans and their families and friends.

“After having to cancel last year’s Veterans Day event due to the pandemic, it was especially great to be able to once again celebrate the many people in our community who have served this country,” Park District spokesman Mike Terson told Pioneer Press in an email.

The event was held in person Nov. 11 at the Community Art Center, with emergency responders – including the Buffalo Grove Police Department – and more participating, as the village thanked military personnel for their service. The lunch served before the ceremony was complimentary for attendees.

“The village salutes all who have served our country,” officials said in a Veterans Day online post.

Officials said that 22 village of Buffalo Grove employees are in or retired from the military – representing each branch of the nation’s armed forces.

Members of VFW Post 981, from Arlington Heights, were on program at the Park District luncheon to present and remove the colors, as well as pay tribute by presenting the flag for each branch of service, according to a Park District post about the event.
